What we know about shooting The Apothecary
The Apothecary is a historic Haymarket-district venue in downtown Lincoln — exposed brick, industrial windows, the kind of timeless aesthetic that fits dark luxury / editorial / candid wedding photography exceptionally well. It's our personal favorite venue style to shoot in.
What we've learned:
- The west-facing industrial windows are golden in the late afternoon. Plan first-look or portrait time in this room for the best light. - The brick exterior on the Haymarket alley is photogenic and underused — we route post-ceremony portraits through there. - Reception lighting tends to mix string lights + Edison bulbs + tungsten lamps. Beautiful aesthetically but technically demanding — we color-correct in post. - The Haymarket walking district has dozens of editorial-friendly backdrops within 2 blocks (cobblestone alleys, vintage signage, historic brick facades).
The dark-luxury / editorial advantage
Most Lincoln venues lean rustic, country, or hotel-formal. The Apothecary leans industrial-chic, which is where our dark-luxury cinematic aesthetic lands best. If you're a couple who wanted a darker, moodier wedding photography style and your other venue options didn't fit it, The Apothecary is the answer.
Coordinating ceremony, reception, downtown logistics
Some couples do ceremony at The Apothecary (indoor or weather-blocked exterior). More often, ceremony is offsite (Holy Trinity, the Cathedral, an outdoor space) with reception at The Apothecary. The Haymarket location means downtown portrait spots are walkable.
We typically build in 30 minutes between ceremony and reception for portraits in the surrounding Haymarket alleys — those frames usually make the favorites list.
Pricing for Apothecary weddings
Most Apothecary weddings fit Signature. The aesthetic of the venue rewards the second-shooter add-on (we use them for candid reception coverage while the lead focuses on dramatic editorial portraits in adjacent rooms). Heirloom couples often include a Haymarket sunset session as a featured part of the day.
What clients say
“Nvar made the entire process effortless. He showed up prepared, knew exactly what shots he wanted, and delivered photos that genuinely look like they belong on a magazine cover. Easily the best money I've spent on imagery.”
