What we know about shooting James Arthur Vineyards

James Arthur Vineyards is one of the most editorial-friendly wedding venues in the Lincoln area — a working winery 20 minutes north of Lincoln in Raymond, with vine rows that photograph beautifully at golden hour, a covered outdoor pavilion, and a barn that handles indoor receptions when weather turns.

What we've learned shooting here:

- The vine rows look best with low backlight — that's a tight 30-minute window before sunset. Plan portrait time accordingly. - The pavilion is east-facing; afternoon ceremonies sit in shaded, even light (no harsh shadows on the wedding party). - The barn loft is criminally underutilized — couples often skip it for portraits, but it has incredible directional window light. - Spring weddings: the vines haven't fully leafed out yet; if you want the iconic 'green vineyard' shot, mid-July through harvest (early October) is the window.

Ceremony, portraits, and the working-winery factor

JAV is an active winery. The tasting room and grounds host non-wedding guests during normal hours — your wedding gets exclusive use of the ceremony and reception spaces, but the perimeter is still working. We route portrait sessions through the quieter back vine rows to avoid awkward photo-bomb situations.

Most JAV weddings use the outdoor ceremony lawn, the pavilion for cocktail hour, and either the pavilion or the barn for reception. A typical day: 4:30 PM ceremony, 6:00 PM portraits (golden hour August), 7:30 PM reception.

Drone, weather, and logistics

JAV approves drone with prior notice — the open terrain is perfect for aerial coverage of the ceremony and the vineyard rows. We coordinate that as part of standard production planning for Heirloom couples (drone is included) and as an add-on for other collections.

The venue has a covered backup option for rain, but the magic shot is outdoors. We plan for both and adapt on the day — no upcharge for weather adjustments.

Pricing for JAV weddings

Most James Arthur Vineyards weddings fit the Signature or Heirloom collection. The travel-from-Lincoln distance (20 min, no charge included) keeps logistics simple. Multi-day events (welcome dinner Friday at JAV, ceremony Saturday elsewhere) land in Heirloom or Bespoke.

What clients say

Nvar made the entire process effortless. He showed up prepared, knew exactly what shots he wanted, and delivered photos that genuinely look like they belong on a magazine cover. Easily the best money I've spent on imagery.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

What's the best time of year to get married at James Arthur Vineyards?
Mid-July through early October is peak — vines are full, weather is reliable, harvest energy in the air. May-June is beautiful but vines are less developed. Late October weddings get incredible fall color but risk weather.
Can you fly drone at James Arthur Vineyards?
Yes — we coordinate drone authorization with JAV before the wedding. FAA Part 107 licensed and insured. Included in our Heirloom collection or $400 add-on otherwise.
How early should we book?
JAV books 12+ months out for Saturday weddings May-October. Once you have your date locked, reach out — most of our JAV couples are booked 9-12 months ahead.
What happens if it rains?
JAV has a covered pavilion that can handle the ceremony in a pinch. We've shot rainy-day weddings here — the wet vines actually photograph beautifully. Timeline adjusts, no extra charge.
