There's a difference between showing the photos and telling the stories. The portfolio shows you what we shoot. The journal is where we slow down a bit and talk about why.
What this journal is
Every post will be one of three things:
- A behind-the-scenes look at a shoot we just wrapped — the prep, the day-of, the decisions that didn't quite make the final cut. Sometimes those decisions are the most interesting part.
- A note on craft — something we learned, something we'd do differently, gear or workflow choices that paid off. Honest, not promotional.
- A piece of writing about Lincoln, Nebraska, or wherever the work takes us. Photographers see places differently than residents do, and that gap is worth writing about.
What it isn't
This isn't going to be a content-marketing factory pumping out "10 tips for the perfect wedding photo." There are enough of those. Posts here will be infrequent and intentional — same standard we hold for the photography itself.
What's coming
The first proper post drops next week — a behind-the-scenes from the Capital Cigar Lounge shoot. We've been working with Capital Cigar on a monthly retainer for a few months now, and it's been one of the most creatively satisfying engagements we've taken on. There's a story in how that partnership started and how it's shaped what NVAR Studios is becoming.
After that: a piece on golden hour in Lincoln (and where to find it), notes from the M+S wedding, and an essay we've been chewing on about why graduation portraits matter more than the diploma. Whenever it's ready.
